Welcome to The Life Change Blog.
Every week (or there abouts) we publish an article about how to change your life, or certainly make positive changes to it. Most of what we write about comes from our Life Coaching Holidays and our Change Holiday program. We hope you enjoy them and find them useful.
How To Reverse The Aging Effects of Anxiety
If ever there was a motivating factor to do something about anxiety surely it’s that it makes us look older than we are…….or so you might think.
The trouble is that fear is what is known as a “poor drive engine of change”. It’s easy for us to ignore, or forget about unless it’s right in our face all the time….and creating an image of ourselves, prematurely aged through anxiety, and holding it all day every day in our mind is not really a practical solution.
Here are 3 life style changes to decrease anxiety without having to continually conjure up psychological fear.
- Drink Far More Water Than You’re Doing Now. When we are de-hydrated we often feel tired, and it’s when we are feeling tired that we are most vulnerable to feeling anxious and stressed. Research shows that we should drink at least 4 litres of water a day.
- Create an Anxiety Diary. This is a great way to manage anxiety. Towards the end of every day, for half an hour, write out and process all the days worries. Don’t take on anything that will increase anxiety unless you’ve worked on it in your diary. As you will be keeping this as part of your regular daily schedule you don’t need to worry outside of your allotted anxiety diary time. At first you may find you need a bit more time, but with practice your anxiety diary time will almost certainly reduce.
- Talk To Somebody. Anxiety increases with isolation. Keeping worries to yourself makes them a hundred times as worse. Seek out close friends, family or people you can trust, people who you can share worries and anxieties with that wont judge you or give you bad advice. If you are worried what they might say or how they might respond find a good professional ; a good Life Coach, Therapist or Counselor.
There are hundreds of different ways to control anxiety. Often what works well for one person won’t work well for you, there is undoubtedly a certain amount of trial and error. The most important thing is to keep on trying different things until you find something that works for you. People who don’t give up, but keep on trying different methods to reduce anxiety will eventually do so.
If the above ideas don’t work for you, get in touch with us, we have hundreds of ideas and strategies and are happy to share them.
